What we ate and loved in July!

Wow, where is the summer going? I feel like I’ve just eaten my way through July (all for research purposes, of course!). There are some things that really stand out when thinking about the month in food and it would be a crime for them not to be showcased, so here’s a little list of some of the best food finds of July!

1. Turkish Eggs Mememen at Little Brother, Capel Street

Recently opened Little Brother (the little brother of Brother Hubbard that is) on Capel Street enticed me in one of the rainy mornings, and oh my god was I delighted I stepped foot in there. These eggs are TO DIE FOR. Seriously, everyone needs to have them. Scrambelled eggs with tomato, roast peppers, light feta, black olive yogurt, chilli, red onion… literally everything you could want on one plate. I can’t even do this justice in words, just go try it for yourself!

2. Bacon Salad at Staple Foods, Temple Bar

Bacon like your granny used to make it transformed into a mexican salad, add creamy lime guacamole- HEAVEN! Throw in one of their amazing juices and you’ve got well more than your five a day.

3. Lemon Avocado cake at Slice, Stoneybatter

This gluten free cake was absolutely delicious. Moist and just the right amount of lemon. Buttery icing. Yum. Paired with one of their lovely coffees this is the perfect place to laze about for an hour or two over the weekend.

4. Courgettes

Courgettes are such an overlooked vegetable. They are in their peak season now so get them while you can! I literally cannot get enough of them. If you want to be a bit fancy you can “zoodle” them (transforming them into a pasta alternative), but I just like to chop them, mix in a bit of soy sauce and turmeric, bake for 20 minutes and you’ve got a super tasty side dish. I usually make absolutely loads and have them with a salad the next day. One of the most versatile vegetables.

5. THIS coffee cup from Oscars, Smithfield

A coffee cup with a spoon holder?! Need I say more? And yes, the coffee was nice too!
