The Gallery at the Westbury is one of my favourite places to relax with a coffee. Even though it’s just a stone’s throw from Grafton Street, I could spend hours here, with the Gallery boasting beautiful decor, open fires and a baby grand piano. I absolutely adore the experience of afternoon tea and recently had the pleasure of doing so while being treated to a recital by young Irish pianist, fifteen year old Kevin Jansson, who later went on to win the Thierry Scherz Prize in Switzerland.

A range of sandwiches included oak smoked salmon and crab with a lemon aioli on brown bread, free range egg and chive mayonnaise, and honey baked ham with tomato relish on malt harvest. The highlight for me was the truffled chicken salad on a brioche bun, as I am a sucker for anything with a hint of truffle flavour.

It was then on to the scones, which were nice and dainty in size and beautifully moist and fluffy, with a delicious buttery crust. To me there is nothing more satisfying than a great quality scone with some strawberry jam and clotted cream. There was a range of miniature desserts to finish. A classic opera cake was a lovely nod to the occasion that it was, consisting of delightful delicate layers. My favourite was the lemon curd meringue tart with pistachio, anything that involves a quality lemon curd I could eat forever. There was also a delicious strawberry and white chocolate pot, which had great fresh flavours.

The Westbury also had an extensive selection of teas, hot chocolates and coffees.  The Nutella hot chocolate caught my eye which I will be back to try!

Afternoon tea at the Westbury is a real treat and a perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon, and with Mother’s Day coming up it’s an ideal gift. The full menu can be viewed on their website here.
